Amy and Cameron got married at The Grand in Long Beach. This was our first time doing a wedding at this venue. Eddie was very happy with the place. He thinks the lighting was good.
Julia liked the venue well enough, but wasn't entirely happy with how hard it was to maneuver for ceremony shots...

This was one of only a few couples we never got to meet until the day of the wedding. We have to say, not only were they a great couple, but their families and friends were also great.

Monique and Beto's wedding.This wedding had a very classic look. It started with a ceremony at Mary Star of the Sea in San Pedro. The bride you see here had a long flowing train, and a cathedral veil.

Of course, what more perfect place to hold the reception for this couple, than the Queen Mary?

While both of us can't stand how dark the lighting is, we have to admit it was a beautiful reception. There is something about the history of the old ship and the feeling you get when walking through the halls that Julia likes.

Ah, Diana and Ben's wedding. Undoubtedly, one of the sweetest couples we have ever had the pleasure to work with. Not only were they so genuine and nice, both the families were also some of the kindest and most considerate people we've ever worked with!

This was one of the longest weddings we've done in a while, but the day went by pretty flawlessly. They had a beautiful ceremony at St. Genevieve's in Burbank, followed by a reception at the Glendale Hilton. We have to say, the service from the Glendale Hilton staff was pretty good.

Yolanda and Jimmy's engagement shoot went prety well. We were worried about the weather because we had to postpone it because of bad weather, and it was still a little bit cloudy in the morning. But as you can see, it turned out to be a beautiful day!

Brandi and George's engagement shoot was like no other we've ever done before. We have never been at the beach on such a crazy windy day! Poor Brandi was in a strapless linen dress, and was freezing! We could barely keep our eyes open, and by the end of the shoot, Julia was deaf from the sound of the wind blowing in her ears...
You would never know if from the photos, though... They were truly great, great sports!

We really couldn't have asked for more cooperative and willing people to shoot! Thanks, Brandi and George! We hope you have recovered from it! :)

We were back the Reef once again, this time for Matt and Aileen's wedding. We've always liked this location for weddings. We get a nice variety of shots, and the Long Beach skyline is a great background both day and night.

This was one of our more last minute bookings, so we didn't get to meet Aileen until the day of the wedding! But we worked well together, and the wedding was very nice.

As you can see, Matt's a jokester, as were a lot of their family and friends. This made the small and intimate affair very fun, though!

Here is Sir Richard Branson at a Virgin Australia brunch organized by the California and Travel Tourism Commission . It was held at the House of Blues in Hollywood. Fresh omelettes were being made at the brunch. Yumm...

These people from the California Travel and Tourism Commission really know how to organize and plan a party! Everyone had a great time, and Julia really liked the entertainment.
They even had an oxygen bar!
Our thanks to Sue Coyle and Sommer McCormick for having us. We had a great time, and we look forward to working with you guys again in April!

The Hummus Factory - El Segundo, CA

We got a call from one of the owners of the Hummus Factory in El Segundo to take photos of some of their dishes. The name immediately caught Julia's interest, of course.
They were all very nice at the Hummus Factory, and all the dishes looked great! Bob was very generous and kept offering the food for us to take home.

We did end up going back a couple of days later before a 4 hour drive to Vegas. We wanted to buy some of their hummus and pita, but they very generously insisted on giving us two orders for free. Thanks, Mike and Bob! It was really good, and it really made our 4 hour drive to Vegas more bearable.

AES Holiday Party in Long Beach

AES hired us for their annual holiday party this year at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach.
As they requested, we set up our studio inside the hotel in front of the grand ball room.
The party went very well, and our studio ran smoothly as usual.
At the end of the night we had 174 photos printed on site and had all the photos saved on a DVD-Rom for the company to keep.
Thank you Carolyn! It was really nice working with you, and hope to work with AES again next year!

This was a pretty fun night. We were hired to do a corporate Christmas party for Heidrick and Struggles. It was at the Falcon Restaurant in Hollywood. The service was great, everyone was very friendly, and the night seemed to go pretty smoothly.

Eddie took posed shots of the guests and Julia printed them out on the spot so that people could take them home as souvenirs.

If you're ever looking for a bite to eat and you're in the Hollywood area, check out the Falcon Restaurant on Sunset Blvd. It's got a pretty good atmosphere.

Our Anniversary :)

Today is our 9th wedding anniversary! We can't believe how fast it went by...

We had a nice lunch at Duke's in Malibu. Eddie ordered the fried calamari appetizer which we both loved. Very, very tender, and not the least bit rubbery or chewy. Next, Eddie had the huge plate you see underneath, which is the Mahi Mahi sandwich. According to Julia, the Mahi Mahi was pretty good; not the least bit dry or overcooked, and the criss cut fries were perfectly seasoned. Eddie, ever the critic, thought it was ok, but was not terribly impressed.
Julia had the open faced Crab and Shrimp sandwiches, which she thought was really tasty. What a shocker! :) We both had passion fruit iced tea while watching the ocean and huge pelicans doing straight dives into the water trying to get fish.
We both thought we were too full for dessert, but Eddie said they had a very popular dessert called the Hula Pie, so we ordered one. We are glad we ordered just one! It was huge! Not to mention rich and sweet and gooey and delicious! It was what looked like one quarter of a pie. Vanilla ice cream on top of a chocolate cookie crust, with a layer of fudge, then smothered in whipped cream and sprinkled with chopped macadamia nuts. Yum!
After lunch Eddie drove to Bartels' where we finally got what we said we were going to get two years ago: Harley Davidson boots for both of us! Julia was thrilled. Eddie picked out a really "bad to the bone" looking pair, and Julia initially picked out a similar one. But both the sales girl and Eddie thought another less clunky one looked better, so she ended up going with that one.
Next we went to stroll around the Santa Monica Pier, and finally rode on the ferris wheel, which we had watched so many times but never had the time to go. Then we ended with a stroll at the Third Street Promenade, where Julia got to spend some time browsing through one of her favorite stores, Sur La Table.
Then we came home and Eddie, still full from lunch, watched as Julia ate nachos and chocolate cake. Fun day! :)

Today we met with a couple who is getting married on a golf course next September. Pretty nice people, and seemed easy going. We had to drive to Huntington Beach to meet with them, so we decided to go somewhere farther for dinner. Julia thought it was a great opportunity to try Sevilla, in Long Beach. She has been wanting to try their tapas for a while now, and since it was on the way home, we stopped by.

The picture you see below is the one that caused the most opposite reaction for us. It's Dates Stuffed with Cabrales Bleu Cheese, wrapped with bacon and covered with apple cider vinegar glaze. Eddie hated this dish more than any other dish we had this night. He doesn't usually like sweetness in dishes that he thinks should be savory, and this one was just too sweet for him. Julia, on the other hand, loved it, and thought it was a great explosion of flavors, despite the fact that she hates blue cheese. If we ever go back, she will definitely order another one of these and happily eat them all herself!
Below is a photo of Chicken Ajillo, Shrimp Azafran, Spicy Marinated Octopus, and Aioli with Fresh Baked Bread.
Ever the carb lover, Eddie loved the bread with Aioli. So much so that he ordered another loaf. Julia didn't mind, though, since she thought it was good too. The octopus was spicy and marinated with red wine vinegar. It had a nice flavor, but Eddie thought it was way too tough and chewy. Even Julia, who doesn't mind chewing tougher meats, had to agree it was on the tough side...

The shrimp was sauteed with cooked with hazelnut brandy and saffron cream sauce. Eddie thought it could have used a little bit stronger spices, but still liked it. Julia, easy to please as always, thought it was good, and was impressed with how perfectly they were cooked: crisp, and not overly cooked.

The chicken was simply sauteed with white wine and garlic. Eddie thought the flavors were right on. Julia, well... You can guess that she liked it too, like almost everything else she eats! :) She was happy just chomping on the olives while we waited for the food to arrive.

So tonight's favorite for Eddie was fresh bread with Aioli, while Julia's was the dates. Overall, Eddie rates the food 3.5 out of 5 stars. Not that impressed, but okay. Julia rates it 4 stars.

They have their menu posted online, so you can go take a look. Eddie doesn't necessarily recommend this place, but Julia does, just for the sake of trying different flavors. This is definitely a good place if you love to drink. We just stuck to lemonade and iced tea this time.

Angela and Steve have got to be one of the most fun and laid-back couples we've met yet. Their wedding took place at The Plaza at Cabrillo Marina in San Pedro. It was a short and sweet ceremony, followed by a reception that was simple, yet elegant and fun all at the same time.

The wedding was island themed, so everyone was told to come in Hawaiian shirts and dresses. Definitely one of the cutest weddings we've been to! Julia loved Angela's bouquet.

The wedding was so much fun that even Steve loosened up enough to recreate the couple's cake top! And the location was a nice little secluded spot next to the water. If you want to take a look, here's their website:

Rachel and Jake had a beautiful wedding this past weekend. The wedding was at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu. The place and the ceremony were all beautiful.

But perhaps the most important part was that they were surrounded by equally great friends and family who made the entire affair that much more special.

Yeap, the entire affair went off without a hitch. For the couple, at least. We, on the other hand, weren't so lucky.
After the wedding ended, we loaded our equipment back into the car and took off thinking we were going home. We found out a couple of turns later that we were lost somewhere in the hills in Malibu, and we had no idea how to get out. It was pretty dark, and there weren't many roads or signs! Luckily, Jake and Rachel happened to drive by as we were pulled over to the side trying to figure out what to do, and they motioned for us to follow them. We did, and they led us out. Phew! Thanks, Rachel and Jake!

The pretty bride you see getting ready here is Kelly. She and David got married in a traditional Catholic ceremony in Long Beach. There were lots of family members who flew in from all around to attend their wedding.

The reception was held at the Long Beach Marriot, near the airport. The couple really have great friends and family that helped make the occasion even more special.
Here is the happy couple dancing to their great band, the Ace of Hearts. If any of you are looking for a good band, they are great. They do pretty much every genre, and they have a great singer, too. Not to mention extremely nice people.
Kelly was a trooper. She was one of the most calm and collected brides we have ever seen!

This was definitely one of those weddings where everyone had fun, and things seemed to go off without a hitch. Truly one of the nicest couples we have worked with.

Hi Julia and Eddie,

Thanks for the list. I see a few competitors sneaked in! I think everyone
had a great time. The photos were a huge hit!! The next day during the show,
we overheard several complimentary comments about the party, and guys were
showing off their photos to each other!

I know you were all very busy the entire time and then some. We appreciated
all of you staying late and printing so we could display the photos at our
booth the next day. All but one person came by the booth and picked up their
photos. We should have the candid shots posted this week, so maybe this one
guy will check the website and ask for his to be mailed.

It was a pleasure working with you. We'll be back in Long Beach in 2010 for
the same show, so if I'm still doing this, I'd definitely like to work with
you again. I think the photos made a huge difference.(I now have the
reputation as "the guy" who threw the Laker Girls party, so I'll have to
come up with something bigger and better.)

We were hired by Magnolia Plastics from Atlanta, Georgia to do a photo set-up at their conference at the Long Beach Hyatt. They hired 6 Laker Girls to perform some dance moves and pose for shots with guests. The girls were very professional.

Since Eddie is a big fan of the Lakers, he couldn't resist the chance to take a photo with 6 of the famous Laker Girls.

Conference attendees, mainly engineers, eagerly lined up to take photos with the girls, and the idea was a huge success. Kudos to Grace McElleny for her brilliant idea! Thanks to Magnolia Plastics for hiring us for this event!

Palms Springs

We just came back from spending two days in Palm Springs. Those of you who don't know, Palm Springs is about a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles. It's in the middle of the desert. We had been there before, but only for a short day trip, during which we took the tram up to the top of the mountain and pretty much spent the whole day up there. So it was nice this time to actually stay overnight and visit the city itself. That time we took the tram up was in 1996, and it was making creaking and squeaking noises... This time, it looked like the tram has been updated since then. But we went straight into the city because not only had we done the whole tram thing before, it looked like it was pretty cold up there...! Neither one of us are fans of cold weather unless we are skiing or snowboarding!

So the picture you see above is where we ate lunch the first day there. It's a place called Fisherman's Market and Grill. We know, it's in the middle of the desert, no ocean in sight... But hey, we didn't name it, so, send your letters their way, not ours. And to those of you who are Food Network fans, yes, this is one of the places Rachael Ray ate at in $40 a day.

We ordered the Fish and Chips and a Crab Cake Sandwich. Both were pretty well cooked. The fish was well fried. They were crispy on the outside, and done just right on the inside so that it was cooked but not tough. And not too greasy or heavy, which is always hard to achieve with fried foods. The crab cake was pretty good. The cole slaw, on the other hand, we both agreed was a little on the bland side... We are both fans of KFC coleslaw, so I guess it's kind of hard to top it...
Here we are, just sitting in the middle of a plaza in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. Eddie thinks the plaza has a name, but Julia has no idea what it could be.
The picture above is the Plaza Theater. It's famous for the Palm Springs Follies, which from research that Julia did before going, seems to be a pretty popular show there. We didn't go, since it didn't seem like our cup of tea. So, we just took a couple of photos. It is, after all, a landmark.
Above are some interesting structures built by some artist guy... We have the info that Julia grabbed from the Palm Springs Museum of Art, where they are located. But they are not in the room, and neither of us feel like getting up to go get it.... Sorry. We promise we will fill in the artist name and all that other educational info later. We can tell you these are rattan, though! We had a great time there. They had all these different collections from sculptures, to prints, to artifacts, and paintings. Definitely worth a visit. If you are ever in that area, it's free on Thursday nights after 4 pm.
So right after the museum visit, we went to the big weekly Palm Spring event: Villagefest. Every Thursday night at 6 pm, a stretch of Palm Canyon Drive is shut down and is filled with people and street size stands. The festival is bigger than we thought it would be and you can find everything from street performers to palm dates (we will get to that later). This photo you see above is a booth selling nothing but different rubber duckies mounted on soaps. We thought they were colorful and cute, so Julia couldn't resist taking a photo of them.
Here is a shot of people browsing Villagefest. In the desert, after dark, it was pretty comfortable and not as hot as it was during the day, where some businesses had cold mist spraying out toward the sidewalk, reminding us of the long lines at Magic Mountain.
So after we retired back to the hotel, we were relaxing when we noticed this very clever, but also very umm, "interesting" tissue box holder. Julia sees a certain humor in it. But Eddie says it's disgusting.

Day two: we got up early in the morning. Okay, not early, but still in the morning, and drove out to Indio, which is about 40 minutes east of Palm Springs to the Shields Date Gardens. We read about this place online. This is where the palm dates thing we mentioned before should be explained. To those of you who already know this, this might not be interesting. But neither of us knew that the many palm trees that line Palm Springs are actually "date palms", so we had to go see it for ourselves. We didn't know that dates grew on a certain kind of palm trees. We thought all palms were coconut trees. :) So the trip to the date gardens was educational for both of us.
Here is Julia standing outside the Shields Date Gardens. Those of you who know her, yes, she is wearing a tank top. Thats how hot it was. Those of you who don't know her, she NEVER wears tank tops.
Above is the only sorry date palm we were allowed to get close to... the rest of the garden, of course, was fenced off and off limits to us. They had a 20 minute video that explained how date palms are planted, polinated manually and picked. It takes a lot of time and effort to grow them successfully, and that is why it's almost impossible to find dates growing on trees in the wild. They require a lot of manual help for the dates to grow and ripen successfully.
Here we are enjoying one of their famous date shakes. They taste like dates and are very, very sweet. They cost $3.75. Not a bad deal, we think. Especially after learning how much time and effort it takes, and how hard it is to grow dates. And of course, we bought a variety pack of dates to bring home.
They will ship their dates. They take orders online if our blog has peaked your interest... www.shieldsdates.com. According to them, 90% of palm dates are produced by them. And they even cultivated their own breed, Blond dates. Eddie liked the soft Medjools. The biggest, most expensive variety, considered the "royalty" of dates. Julia pretty much thinks they are all good. We were allowed to sample a huge variety, and Julia still couldn't decide which one she liked the best after tasting almost all of them... Probably the Medjools also, but she is not sure. (Eddie rolls his eyes...)
Back from Indio, we headed back to downtown Palm Springs and after having our third ice cream or shake, we went to La Casita Mexican Restaurant, located right next to the Plaza Theater. Julia was hungry and ordered the concoction above: a Mexican Pizza with chicken and black beans. Eddie was too hot and full of shakes and ice cream to eat. He just nibbled on chips and salsa and sipped cold lemonade.
Of course, a trip to Palm Springs wouldn't be complete without photos of the windmills above, and of the Cabazon dinosaurs below. This time, Julia actually got to walk inside, which she didn't get to do last time they passed by because they were closed. Those of you who dont know, the dino is a gift shop.
The photo below is of some interesting bottles of wine we saw at Hadley's Fruit Stand. It is located right next to Morongo Casino and Resort. If you are a fan of trail mix and dried fruit, Hadley's will be heaven for you. According to their website, they claim to be the ones who invented trail mix. They had tons of varieties of it. Neither of us are trail mix fans, so we really can't tell you if they were any good. But their certainly had a nice variety, and they looked pretty... healthy?

This was a pretty good, relaxing two day getaway. We were scratching our heads trying to figure out where we could go for two or three days, and couldn't think of any place we havent already been within southern California. So finally we settled on Palm Springs since the last time we went we didn't really visit the city. We are glad we went. We learned some things, about art, about growing dates, and now got the chance to relax. So we came back well rested, and with the new found knowledge that not all palm trees grow coconuts! :)

Shrimp and Crabs at Redondo Beach

So we went to the Redondo Beach Pier again yesterday, for some more of the Santa Barbara female crabs that we both like. But this time, we each got only one so that we could have some room to try something new. The crabs were great as always! The picture below is Eddie walking back with our freshly steamed crabs from Quality Seafood, where we always get our crabs. $3.99 a pound; can't beat that! So we decided to have the medium sized Shrimp and Veggies. It was $13.99, and considering how much there was, it was a bargain. They certainly did not skimp on the shrimp! And they even throw in a garlic bread to help you mop up the juices.

Great... Looking at these photos is making Julia hungry again... We can't wait till the next time!

FOX Studio

After working at Fox for so long, Eddie finally agreed to go into their lot for a little self-guided tour. We walked around, saw some fake sets and murals, including this one of Star Wars on the outside of one of the stages. The one you can barely see on the left is the Simpsons one. For those of you who are Marilyn Monroe fans, you probably recognize this one: The Seven Year Itch. Neither of us have ever seen the movie, or have any interest in seeing it. Julia actually thought it was Lucy and Desi at first :) But the mural was pretty detailed and certainly well painted.
The photo below is Julia, standing in New York. Well, the fake New York set, at least. I'm sure some of you may have seen this in some movie or TV show, but we can't quite recall where... We'll have to get back to you on that one.

The nice structure behind Julia below, while looks like Solvang, or something, is actually some offices. We are not sure what people work on in there, but we saw one sign that said "Back to You". Not quite sure that TV show is still surviving, though...!

This Century City lot wasn't as big as we thought... We walked around and took our time, and it only took us a little over an hour to walk through it. Not much going on, but it was kind of fun to walk around the different looking structures and seeing production office signs posted for different shows like Bones and Shark. Even How I Met Your Mother. Not too sure why that is since the show is on CBS...

We finally made it to the Flower Fields this year! We've been wanting go to for years now. Last year we missed the season by a week, and the year before we just forgot about it. This year we finally made it.
We didn't expect it to be as big as it was. We had to walk around quite a bit...

But it was worth it. Everyone should go take a look at least once. We are not really big flower people, but even we appreciated the beauty of it.

Yesterday we had to pleasure of photographing a dinner hosted by the president of Aramco. It was at the Madison Restaurant in Long Beach. The invited guests of the evening were Saudi-Arabian students who are studying on scholarships provided by the company. The restaurant was beautiful, and the food was good. The only complaint we had was the lack of parking, and how expensive it was. Otherwise, it was a pretty good evening, and our contact person, Brad Brumford, could not have been nicer or more gracious.

We met with this great couple, Mary and Fabio today, for the second time. This time it was to sign an agreement to photograph their wedding, which is going to be held in Newport Beach this summer. Julia has no problem admitting that she was instantly impressed by Mary. She rides a motorcycle, is a personal chef, and was a machine gunner in the military. "How cool is that?" Julia says.

From what they have described to us, it sounds like it should be a beautiful wedding. We look forward to it!

Betty White Event at L.A. Mart

We were recently hired by L.A. Mart to do a two hour set-up shoot with Betty White. They were having a special reception and fundraiser in conjunction with Joy to the World, Betty White and the Morris Animal Foundation.

Irish Wedding

Therese and Nathaniel's wedding this past weekend took place in the Santa Monica Catholic Church. It was a small, but very nice and intimate ceremony that we are sure many of the guests will remember fondly.

The reception was held at Le Merigot Marriot in Santa Monica. The entire staff was extremely courteous, and the service was second to none.

Lily and JC's wedding was a little bit of a surprise to us. They are both very witty and humorous. So it caught us a little by surprise that their ceremony turned out to be really sweet and emotional for everyone.
This shot above was taken at their ceremony location, The Reef in Long Beach. It got dark pretty fast, so we didn't get to take any sunset shots during the ceremony. But the lights reflecting off the Long Beach shoreline in the background came out beautiful, too.

Redondo Beach Pier, Crabs and Hats!

We spent some time in Redondo Beach today. We got two Santa Barbara female crabs, and while we were waiting for them to get steamed, we wandered around the arcade. Julia couldn't resist an old childhood favorite and put some quarters into those machines where you aim and drop a quarter in and wait for the "hand" to push the quarter into slots to see if any fall off the edge... She got zilch. Eddie had better luck and actually managed to push 4 quarters off the edge! But sadly, no quarters came out; only tokens! Unsure of what to do, we went to the token redemption center looking through the useless knick-knacks... We were about to head back to the games to see if we could score some more tokens for a decent prize when we stumbled upon these French hats for 2 tokens each! :D For some reason it was really amusing to us... I guess you had to be there! Anyway, we got two matching hats for the value of a quarter each. Not bad, we think; and it turned out to be kind of cold, so we were actually grateful for it! The hard part was trying to find a person to take this photo for us. Would you believe, two different arcade employees refused to take it for us?? Maybe they were jealous of us, who knows? :D

Those of you who live in the area or plan to be in the area, take Torrance Boulevard westbound all the way to the end, and you will find yourself in the parking lot. Go down the parking lot steps, make a sharp right, and you will find yourself standing in front of Quality Seafood. Order the Santa Barbara females. They are our favorites, and you will often find them filled with yummy crab eggs. A good sized crab usually runs around $6 to $7. Very affordable and very yummy. We also had some fried calamari and a slab of garlic bread to soak up the crab juices.

Marymount College X'Mas Party

We were hired to do a set-up for the Marymount College staff Christmas party this year. It was great! There were so many nice people! The group photo above is of the sisters that started it all at Marymount! Aren't they lovely?

The college not only gave all the staff frames as gifts, but they are also providing them each a 5X7 photo to put in the frames.

Pasta with Pumpkin Sauce

We had this for dinner tonight. Pasta with Pumpkin Sauce, chopped sausages and fresh basil. Eddie thought it was surprisingly good, and he gobbled it up, (get it? gobbled? sorry...) despite not being a fan of pumpkin. Eddie said he would not have been able to tell if Julia hadn't told him. She will definitely keep that in mind... :P

So this brings our pumpkin update to: 14 pumpkin pies, 2 pots of curried pumkin soup, 1 batch of pumpkin squares and 1 batch of pasta with pumpkin sauce.

Julia made this turkey army for our Thanksgiving dinner tonight. It's made from Oreo cookies, peanut butter cups, candy corn and malted milk balls. The darned things were hard to find! They didn't have any at Ralphs, or Albertsons, the local liquor store, and 7-Eleven. Finally, they were found at CVS... By the way, thanks for the tip, Daniel!

We also had a first tonight. Fried turkey. Yes, we know that it's dangerous, but a family friend who was here for dinner was in charge of it, so we went along. We were actually pretty excited about trying it. And we both agree, it's the best turkey we've ever had! And before you start emailing us, we had a fire extinguisher on hand the whole time!

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! The tryptophan is starting to kick in...

Brief Pumpkin Update

Imperial Garlic

These odd looking things you see above are Imperial Garlic. We saw these at a store today, and Julia was curious enough to buy them. They claimed to be "one clove heads" of garlic. Once we got home and unwrapped, we found they are exactly what they claimed to be. They taste just like regular garlic. A little bit disappointing, we have to say. For some reason, we half-expected them to taste a little different...

California Travel and Tourism Commission Event

The California Travel and Tourism Commission had a media event at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills yesterday. They asked us to cover the event and set up a green screen studio for some still shots. Here is Julia working hard.

Today is Eddie's birthday!! We went to SoHo Thai Fusion Bar & Grill to celebrate, and this photo above was taken with Eddie's camera phone, so you'll have to excuse the quality... These are the appetizer Angel Wings. Pretty good, we have to say. They are chicken wings with the bones removed, and stuffed with a mixture of pork and some other ingredients that I'm sure they will not share with us... It tasted a little reminiscent of Vietnamese fried egg rolls. The chicken was nice and crispy, not too over fried; the texture was great! This restaurant is fairly new, so those of you who haven't tried it yet, go check it out. Their website is www.sohothai.com

Point Vicente Lighthouse

We spent some time on Palos Verdes today, scouting for good photo locations. We ended up at the Point Vicente Lighthouse. We have been there before, but never stayed until it got pretty dark like we did today. It was the first time we saw the lighthouse actually lit up! And there was some fog (what else is new in PV?) so we had to listen to the fog horn the whole time we were there.

The last time we were there the new visitor's center was still in construction. Now it's done, but we were there too late in the day to be able to take photos and look around, so we took the photos and decided to go back some other day to be tourists. Today was strictly a "work" visit.

Apparently, great artistic ability runs in Evan's family. Having a sculptor grandfather and a painter mother, art has been a part of Evan's life since he could remember.

Anna and Jose's wedding

Meet Anna and Jose. A very fun couple, great sports, and great sense of humor. We did this photo shoot at Wilson Park. It wasn't too hot that day, so it was perfect for a shoot at the park. And the newly built tree-house was lots of fun.
According to Anna, Jose made all the bouquets and boutonnieres. We think he did a great job! If you guys need flower arrangements, we can hook you up!

Harry's Oklahoma Style BBQ

We went to Wilson Park in Torrance today for a 2 hour photo shoot. The couple had just gotten married, and wanted some photos. So we met with them, their wedding party and their happy moms.

After the shoot, we were hungry, and decided to go to Harry's Oklahoma Style BBQ in Lomita. We had read great reviews about it online, and couldn't wait to try it. Apparently, we didn't read the reviews closely enough, so we showed up having no idea that it was a take-out only place! No matter, though. We ordered their #1 combo, which included a full rack of smoked bbq baby back ribs, 1 lb. of smoked bbq tri-tip, 2 smoked bbq half chicken brests, 1 quart of molasses baked beans, 1 pint of coleslaw, 1 pint of potato salad, and 4 dinner rolls.

We left the restaurant as Julia giggled with anticipation. It's no surprise that Julia loved the food, but even Eddie, who has a slightly harder-to-please palate, had to agree that it was very good. All the meats were tender, juicy, and cooked to smoky perfection!

If you haven't been to Harry's yet, it's easy to miss it. It's at the corner of Narbonne Avenue and 255th in Lomita. Here's the exact address: 25501 Narbonne Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717. We met with this very nice couple today, fellow Long Beach alumni Lily and J.C., who have hired us to photograph their wedding. We met at their wedding location, which is a really nice location with a great view of the ocean. They were a little concerned it might be too dark for good photos since it's a December outdoor wedding.

We are grateful to them for pointing this out to us so that we can have a chance to think about how to deal with the situation. Most customers we meet don't have the kind of insight that this couple does, and they have made our jobs a whole lot easier by letting us know exactly what we are dealing with.

We met with a couple today, Mylene and Marnie. They are a little stressed out... Their wedding is this upcoming Sunday, and apparently, the photographer they had booked fell ill. Not exactly sure what happened, but seems like he was hemorrhaging from the nose! So they were looking for a replacement with less than a week to go!

Luckily, we were available, and we were more than happy that we could offer our services to this couple. We are sure it will all work out, and afterwards, they will have a good story to tell people and be able to laugh about it afterwards. This is a first! And now, we have another interesting story to tell too!

We look forward to working with this nice couple. Despite the stress they must be feeling, they were still very respectful, polite and considerate people.

Kathryn and Will

We just finished editing Kathryn and Will's photos, which we shot at the beach a couple of days ago. What a lovely couple! We are glad to have met them; they were such a pleasure and so much fun to work with!
They were such great sports, especially Will, since he was kept in the dark about the whole thing until we were actually at the beach. There he was, dressed in shorts, which he claims that he usually doesn't wear, driving to an unknown location, but completely trusting Kathryn and just going along with it.
They are one of those few couples that you can just look at and not only see, but also feel their genuine love for each other and feel inspired by it. A truly picture perfect couple to boot! It's rare for us to finish a photo shoot and come out of it feeling more energized than we did before the shoot, but that's how much fun this couple was.
Here's to you, Kathryn and Will! To many more years to come!

An interesting email

Today we got an email from Iowa. It was from a lady called Kathryn, who sounded (or read, actually) very lovely. She and her husband are coming to Los Angeles this week to celebrate their wedding anniversary, and she would like an engagement-style photo shoot at the beach.

We look forward to working with them... They sound like a lovely couple!
